As an old friend used to say, “I am sick to my ass” with movies portraying white people as social-knights in shining white armor and blacks as inept buffoons who can’t save themselves. In the latest Hollywood installment of “whitey to the rescue”, Sandra Bullock plays a bleached blonde Christian who swoops down from her heavenly perch of white-entitlement, to save a big, dumb, black ox from himself, and of course, other equally backwards black folks. I don’t think there was one functional, fully developed black character in this movie.
This is the kind of movie that convinces white folks that their shit don't stink! It makes them feel good about themselves! More importantly, it makes them feel superior.
Once again, in a failed attempted at a “feel good” movie, Hollywood’s racial insensitivity does a major disservice to the millions of African American heroes, who never get their 15 minutes of fame.

Dey still lookin........
I am not interested in this particular film. I had my fill of them coming to save us when all the movies came out about education. I found that a whole lot of my White peers actually believed that they were superior to us. Until they worked in our classrooms and began to learn that a lot of our parents were not that thrilled to have them present. Nor were our children that impressed either.
There are plenty of us who step up and help people of all races, including white folks. But how many movies have been made about the black woman who is struggling to support her own children, but finds room in her heart and her own, for her neighbor's kids. What about the black teachers who spend their OWN money on school supplies, because no one else cares if the children in her classroom has paper, crayons, or pencils? In my lifetime, I have seen black people take charge in some pretty amazing situations, but I have never seen Hollywood fall over themselves to make a movie about.
I hear you. A lot of teachers are incredible and devote their lives to helping others. I have known teachers who paid personally for my school supplies when I didn't have any. They give their all including a major part of their lives to make a difference.
